Formal Dresses: How To Accessorise
You may need to wear a formal dress for many occasions, such as a wedding or a formal birthday party. There are many different types of formal dresses available in numerous different colours and cuts. Choosing the right dress can be hard, but choosing what to wear with it can also be a little difficult.
Consider the Occasion: Before you choose items to wear with and of your formal dresses, you first need to consider what type of occasion you are attending, and what season it is in. This can help to provide you with an idea of what other clothing items and accessories you may want to wear. For example, if you are attending a winter wedding, then you may need to take a jacket, whereas in the summer you most likely wouldn’t need a jacket.
Shoes: Aside from your dress, one of the most important items in your outfit is your shoes. When wearing any of your formal dresses, high heeled shoes, such as platform heels and stilettos are the best choice. They complement the body beautifully, and they look elegant and formal, which means that they will match your formal dress. However, be careful when selecting shoes for your dress, as you don’t want them to clash.
If your dress is a neutral shade, like black, then most colour shoes will suit it well. However, if any of your formal dresses are in a non-neutral colour, such as red, then you have to be more careful when selecting shoes. If this is the case, then choose shoes that are in a neutral shade, such as black.
Jacket: Jackets, such as blazers and boleros all look great when paired with formal dresses. When choosing a jacket, make sure that it does not clash with your dress. If your dress features embellishments, such as diamantes at the top, then you wouldn’t want to choose a jacket that featured embellishments, as it would make your outfit look too fussy. Similarly, you should avoid choosing a jacket in a colour that will clash with your dress. If you are wearing a dress in a non-neutral colour, like pink, you should choose a jacket that is in a neutral shade, like white.
Handbag: The right handbag can make a great elegant addition to your formal outfit. The handbag that you choose to wear with your formal dresses should be medium to small in size. Avoid large, over-sized bags, as these can overwhelm the rest of your outfit. Clutch bags work great for formal occasions, as they look very chic. However, as they have no strap, you have to hold them in your hand throughout the formal occasion, which can be a little annoying. A great alternative is a small to medium sized handbag, which features a strap.
Jewellery and Other Accessories: On formal occasions, you can also choose to wear elegant accessories and jewellery. At some formal occasions, such as a wedding, you could wear a formal hat. Bracelets, necklaces, earrings and rings, all look great with formal dresses. Whatever accessories you decide to wear, make sure that they complement the rest of your outfit.
